Forget Me Not Sessions

Because every bond deserves to be remembered.

Forget Me Not Sessions were created to celebrate the unconditional love, laughter, and companionship that our dogs bring into our lives.

Whether your best friend has received a terminal diagnosis, is enjoying their golden years, or you're simply feeling the preciousness of this Autumn season together, these sessions are designed to preserve the bond you never want to forget.

Unlike our traditional Pet Portrait Experience, Forget Me Not Sessions are thoughtfully tailored around one special companion.

We move at your dog's pace, taking plenty of breaks while capturing both the quiet moments and joyful memories that make your relationship uniquely yours.

Your session can take place at one of our favorite outdoor locations or somewhere deeply meaningful to your story—whether that's your backyard, your favorite park, or the comfort of home.

After your session, your photographs become more than digital files. Together we'll design heirloom artwork—including handcrafted albums, folio boxes, and museum-quality wall art—that allows your dog's legacy to live on in your home for generations.

Most clients invest around $1,600+ in custom artwork and digital images that celebrate a lifetime of love.

The Story Behind Forget Me Not Sessions

Sox was more than a dog.

He was my best friend, my adventure buddy, my constant, and for the first six months of Five Freedoms Photography, he was my muse.

When Sox was unexpectedly diagnosed with a form of aggressive stomach cancer, my world changed overnight.

Every walk, every car ride, every silly moment became something I wanted to hold onto forever.

I realized how quickly the ordinary moments or little details often become the ones we miss the most.

Forget Me Not sessions were born from that firsthand experience.

Today, they're my way of helping other families preserve the love, personality, and connection they share with their own four legged companions while honoring Sox’s legacy.

My goal isn't to document a sad goodbye—it's to celebrate a life that has been deeply loved and preserve the memories you'll carry with you forever.

Kind Words

There is no greater honor than being trusted to preserve the memories of a beloved companion. Here are a few kind words from clients who invited me to tell their story.

VESPA & MARY

Joanne is incredible. We did an a Forget Me Not Session with my dog who was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Vespa was mostly deaf, very anxious/active, and hard to control or to get to participate. Joanne somehow made it work, with ease, and the pictures were amazing.

Vespa died just a couple of days later, and these are the most treasured images I have us. I’m so grateful for her and her time! Highly recommend capturing the moment with your pup sooner rather than later. Such a great communicator as well. Easy to schedule.

THOR & MICHELLE

There aren’t enough words to describe how amazing Joanne and Five Freedoms Photography are. It was truly an honor to work with her for our Forget Me Not session with our little senior shepherd, Thor Bear.

She was so warm as she worked with our Thor Bear, and while it was a heartbreaking experience altogether knowing time was running out with my heart dog, she let us cry, made us laugh and let him lead the whole session. It was truly something so special, something I couldn’t recommend more.

Joanne held our hand during the whole process and even hand delivered our album. She’s a gem and will always hold a very special place in our hearts. Also, the pictures are beyond amazing, everything I could have hoped they’d be and more.

DAISY & SHANA

I’ve been so fortunate to work with Joanne twice to capture our beautiful fur babies. I was immediately in love with my images (still am!) and I appreciated her kind demeanor and knowledge of her craft.

Unfortunately, recently we had to say goodbye to our beloved 15 year old hound mix. Our photographs from Joanne are stunning but now serve as a beautiful memorial for our sweet girl. They were precious to me and now they are invaluable. Thank you, Joanne!

Commonly Asked Questions

  • WHAT IF MY DOG IS TO ILL TO TRAVEL?

We often visit a client’s home for some Forget Me Not sessions if the dog is too ill or immobile, so that’s always an option depending on the client’s preference.

  • DO YOU TRAVEL OUTSIDE OF RALEIGH FOR THESE SESSIONS?

Yes, we do! Raleigh is our home base, but if there is a location that’s meaningful to you and your pup — say the mountains or beach or Grandma’s farm — we can definitely travel to you! A small travel fee may apply for any travel outside of the Raleigh area and our typical session locations.

  • WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME TO SCHEDULE A FORGET ME NOT SESSION?

The best time is sooner than you think. Many clients choose to schedule while their dog is still feeling well enough to enjoy favorite walks, treats, cuddles, or adventures. These everyday moments often become the memories they treasure most.

  • MY DOG IS REACTIVE TO OTHER DOGS OR PEOPLE. IS THAT OKAY?

Yes. With years of experience working with dogs of all temperaments (and having two reactive dogs of my own), I use a calm, patient approach to help every dog feel as comfortable as possible.

  • DO YOU OFFER LAST MINUTE SESSIONS?

Yes! We try to keep space in our schedule to accommodate last minute or sessions that come up unexpectedly. If your session is of extremely short notice due to a diagnosis or decline, you may fill out the form below, but also text us at (919) 740 9213, so that we may see your message and get back to you more quickly!
