February 2026 Adoptables
This blog post of February adoptables is going to be a long one!
The local shelter, WakeGov Pets, is closed for repairs, so I’ve opened up numerous dates for fosters to bring their pups to me for photos.
There are so many incredible, wonderful, and silly dogs looking for their forever home.
As always, if you see someone here that strikes your fancy, please reach out. You are welcome to share this post as well to help these animals gain more visibility. Every little thing helps!
Without further ado, here are the adorable animals I had the pleasure to meet and photograph as part of our February Foster Photo Day!
Know someone looking to adopt? Feel free to share their profile or this post with them!

D’ARTAGNAN - WAKEGOV PETS
D'Artagnan is a confident two-year-old with the loyalty, charm, and noble spirit of a true musketeer. He loves exploring the world, soaking up belly rubs, and being by your side as your devoted companion and little hero. He loves to cuddle. He is potty trained, sleeps well in his crate, rides well in the car. Very food motivated, so easy to train. Knows sit, working on other things now. A calm boy not hyper.
In playgroup, D'Artagnan showed that he's a chill, easygoing guy. He sauntered around greeting everyone politely, equally comfortable with males and females, but he wasn't much for roughhousing or high-energy play. He's pleasant, agreeable, and perfectly happy to take life at his own pace-more of a calm observer than an instigator of games.
Although he is Heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Friends of Wake County Animal Center has provided a $600 sponsorship to help cover the cost of treatment.
He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick and Heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times.
If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out his foster mom at dogfosterkim@gmail.com.
BOOMER - CRISISDOGS NC
Meet Boomer — a 1-year-old, 16 lb Chihuahua mix with a tender heart, a playful streak, and a deep love for other dogs. With a medium energy level, he enjoys walks and playtime but is happiest when he has a confident canine companion by his side to help him feel safe.
Boomer is still working on potty and crate training and can be nervous with new people, especially in busy environments. He would do best in a calm, kid-free home with a patient, experienced owner who can offer gentle structure and isn’t away for long hours. Once he trusts you, his silly, affectionate personality shines — complete with zoomies, toy parades (especially his beloved Lamb Chop), and plenty of sweet snuggles.
WILBUR - LONGLEAF ANIMAL RESCUE
Wilbur is a very sweet, 5 year old hound. He loves dogs, cats and people. He is loyal and calm and has a wonderful sweet demeanor. He's crate trained and potty trained and good on a leash. He would be a wonderful family dog and would also love to be your front seat buddy on adventures!
BETSY - WAKEGOV PETS
Coming soon to WakeGov Pets!
DUCK - PERFECTLY IMPERFECT PUPS
Duck might not actually waddle, but with a name like his, we’re leaning into the puns—and trust us, this guy is too good not to show off.
Currently thriving in a foster home with a professional trainer, Duck is soaking up all the good stuff: structure, skills, and confidence. He’s crate-trained, housebroken, and already knows the basics. More than that, he wants to learn—he’s eager to please, ridiculously smart, and bonds deeply with his people.
Duck would love an adult-only home with someone who appreciates a loyal sidekick who’s equal parts goofy and devoted. While he’s selective about his canine companions, he can potentially live with another dog—with slow, thoughtful introductions and a vibe check to make sure everyone’s on the same page. The best part? His trainer is happy to provide post-adoption support to help everyone get off on the right paw.
If you’ve been looking for a one-of-a-kind pup to share your home, your couch, and maybe your snacks… Duck is your guy.
Apply to foster or adopt through Perfectly Imperfect Pups today. Don’t let this quirky, loveable boy fly away.
BUDDY - CRISISDOGS NC
Meet Buddy, a four-year-old Labrador mix with a gentle heart, playful spirit, and 73 pounds of pure love to give. True to his Lab roots, Buddy is friendly, loyal, and incredibly people-oriented — the kind of dog who wants to be wherever his humans are. He’s smart, eager to please, and already knows commands like sit and lay down (and may even show off a dramatic “play dead” for the right audience). Fully house-trained and crate-trained, Buddy is respectful in the home and doesn’t chew things he shouldn’t. He gets along well with other dogs, previously loved visits to the dog park, and is likely to do well with school-aged children thanks to his sweet, gentle nature.
Buddy’s personality is equal parts adventure buddy and cuddle champion. He’s absolutely obsessed with fetch and would happily chase a ball all day, but he’s just as content climbing into your lap for snuggles and delivering enthusiastic face kisses. He walks nicely on leash, enjoys getting out to explore, and would thrive with an active family who can give him plenty of exercise, playtime, and affection. A little overweight at the moment, Buddy could benefit from a few extra walks and games of fetch — though if you ask him, he’s already perfect just the way he is. For a family looking for a loving, loyal companion who’s equal parts fun and affection, Buddy truly is the full package.
LENNY - WAKEGOV PETS
Meet Lenny, a rock-and-roll soul with a true Free Bird spirit. He loves to play a little door-dashing game, always ready to break loose and hit the road for a walk faster than you can say "turn it up." This sweet boy leans in for affection and truly needs his people close.
In a recent playgroup with a female dog, Lenny showed off his fun side-full of wiggles and jiggles, romping, playing, and enjoying every silly moment. His body does show signs of recent cuts and abrasions, but they're healing nicely. Because of that, he prefers lighter petting and may show mild discomfort at times. When he's with his favorite people, though, Lenny is in full Sweet Home bliss.
Although he is heartworm positive, it is treatable and not contagious. Heartworm treatment will be covered in full. Costs must be reasonable and approved at adoption.
He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and neutered. If you have cats or another dog, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times.
AERO - CHARLEYS K9 RESCUE
A Heart Too Big to Be Left Behind
Aero was just a tiny pup when he was first adopted, full of promise and puppy kisses. But life changed, and when his family had a child, they decided they no longer had time for him.
Now, just under a year old, Aero is back looking for what every dog deserves — a forever family that sees him as part of their whole future, not just a chapter.
But don’t let his past define him — Aero is thriving!
This sweet, goofy, big-hearted boy is crate trained, dog-friendly, and recently completed a 5-week training program, where he proudly earned the title of “Most Improved” (we’re so proud!). He’s attended adoption events like a champ, greeting new faces with tail wags and kisses.
He knows “sit” and “lay down”, and he's still got that puppy energy that makes him the life of the party. Whether it's a game of fetch, a playdate with another pup, or a cozy nap after a good walk, Aero’s joy is contagious.
All Aero wants is a second chance — someone who will love him unconditionally, stick by his side, and help him keep growing into the amazing dog he’s meant to be. He’s not just looking for a home… he’s looking for his person.
MRS. BRISBY - FREEDOM RIDE RESCUE
Mrs. Brisby—named after the brave and tender-hearted character from The Secret of NIMH—is a sweet, shy senior lady with a soft spirit and a lot of love to give.
This gentle girl can be unsure of new people at first and may be a bit vocal when meeting strangers, but don’t be fooled—it doesn’t take long to win her over. Once she feels safe, she warms up quickly… though she may forget she just met you five minutes later. With patience and kindness, her affectionate side shines through.
Mrs. Brisby is still working through some potty and incontinence challenges, which are likely tied to her age and a lack of proper care before coming into rescue. She will do best with an understanding home ready to support her continued progress. When she’s comfortable, she loves to snuggle and soak up quiet companionship.
She enjoys playing with the other dogs in her foster home and has a special fondness for squeaky balls—though she prefers to keep those treasures to herself. Mrs. Brisby is looking for a calm, loving home that will offer her the security, patience, and gentle care she’s always deserved.
If you believe, like we do, that senior dogs are full of magic and worth every extra bit of love, Mrs. Brisby may be your perfect match.
