Ethereal Tattoo Gallery is one of the most established tattoo studios in Durham, with over seven years in business and deep roots in the local creative community. Known for a strong emphasis on fine art and technical excellence, the studio specializes in realism, fine line, illustrative work, and portraiture.

Owner and senior artist Brian Parrillo is especially known for his realistic portraits, including pet portraits. Brian’s fine art background and training in oil painting portraiture translates to portrait tattoos which capture likeness, personality, and realistic texture.

Ethereal operates as a deliberately art-focused and photography-conscious tattoo studio. The shop values how artwork is documented and preserved.

That philosophy drew Ethereal to align with Five Freedoms Photography, whose work reflects the same respect for craft, subject, and storytelling—and also a love for animals and animal rescue!

ONYX - LOVEMUTTS RESCUE

Meet Onyx, a wonderful, energetic young pup with a personality as bright as sunshine! At around 50 pounds, this handsome Lab mix is full of life, love, and enthusiasm for his next adventure.

Onyx is house and crate trained, has great manners, walks nicely on leash, and is an excellent car rider. He loves getting out and about, whether it’s visiting breweries and restaurants, exploring parks, or heading somewhere new with his people.

A social guy at heart, Onyx loves people and enjoys playing with other dogs. While he doesn’t need a canine sibling in his forever home, having a playful companion would certainly make him happy! Because of his enthusiastic energy, he does best with thoughtful introductions to new dogs—but if they’re ready to play, so is he!

One of the best parts about adopting Onyx? He comes with the support of the trainer he’s been living with! She’ll help his new family learn how to walk him and introduce him to new dogs, and she’ll be available to offer guidance as he settles into his new home. She loves Onyx dearly and wants nothing more than to see him thrive with a family of his own.

IVY - PERFECTLY IMPERFECT PUPS

Ivy is a six month old puppy with a brave little heart and a curious spirit that makes every day feel like an adventure. She is the perfect mix of playful and independent, happily romping around with toys and dog friends, then setting off to explore and see what she can discover next.

This sweet girl absolutely loves other dogs and thrives in their company. She enjoys playing with her foster siblings and littermate and would do great in a home with another playful pup. Ivy also loves kids and has spent time around many, making her a wonderful fit for a busy, loving family.

Ivy has a fun, slightly mischievous side that will keep you smiling. You might catch her gently knocking on doors or wandering into new rooms just to check things out and find her next little adventure. She is confident, curious, and always ready to explore the world around her.

When playtime is over, Ivy is an expert at relaxing. She loves stretching out in the sunshine and soaking up the warmth, fully embracing her “play hard, rest hard” lifestyle. And here’s a bonus, she doesn’t mind baths, which is always a win with a puppy.

MEET IVY

NEWTON - PERFECTLY IMPERFECT PUPS

Hello, I'm Sir Fig Newton, or Newton to my friends. I am king of the couch snuggles, master of daily walks, and am total love-bug, according to my foster mom. I'm also completely housebroken and don't require a crate, as long as the counters are cleared off!

I've got a "Jerry Springer" background story apparently, not that I know what that means, but basically, I had thought that I had found my forever home, until my mom met a few different daddies and then I ended up as a stray, but still have lots of love to give! I walk well on a leash, I am unphased by other dogs when we're out in public, get along very well with the other dogs in my current place & enjoy running around the backyard. I enjoy the occasional "stuffy" (stuffed/squeaky toy) and am down to chew on a nylabone when I'm not having a nap!

MAUI - CRISISDOGS NC

Meet Maui, a 1-year-old, 47-pound Husky mix with a huge, goofy smile and a sunshine-bright personality! This happy-go-lucky boy loves everyone he meets—kids, dogs, and even cats—and recently soaked up all the attention from children at an adoption event. Maui is playful, social, and full of zest for life. He’d love a fenced yard for zoomies and a doggie sibling (or two!) to romp around with.

Maui is potty trained, crate trained, has wonderful house manners, and is a dream passenger in the car. He’s still working on his leash skills—there’s just so much exciting stuff to see!—but he’d make an incredible companion for an active family who loves hiking, camping, exploring, and outdoor adventures. And when the fun is over? Maui transforms into a massive cuddle bug who’s happy to curl up beside you and soak up all the love.

With his gorgeous amber eyes, joyful spirit, and endless enthusiasm for life, Maui is the perfect mix of adventure buddy and family companion. He’s ready to love big, play hard, and bring a whole lot of happiness to his forever home!
