September 2026 Adoptables

Our September adoptable round up has arrived!

September’s Foster Photo Day was non-sponsored, but that doesn’t mean the dogs were any less cute or adoptable.

In fact, I feel like September was a very special month - all of these pups have come from very sad backgrounds, but through imagery and a wonderful foster, we can help to change their story!

It takes a village to care for these animals, to help them heal, and to help them find their forever home. So, if you are able, please share them today!

JULIA - WAKEGOV PETS

Sweet Julia has come so far in a short time; on intake she was emaciated and covered with wounds, but the love in her heart shone through and she was sent to us to foster her during her recovery. She has filled out thanks to yummy meals and treats, she has shown us that she is fully potty trained, calm in the car, respectful to the household cats, and will go in her crate easily for bedtime (though she has been thoroughly reliable out on her own). She already knows "sit" and can catch a treat tossed in midair!

She is super smart and eager to please so training her for more things will be fun for her new family. She walks well on a leash and doesn't pull. She has met other dogs at the shelter's playgroup and she would do best if the adoptive household had a low key, tolerant dog that will let Julia set the pace (therefore she is marked "dog selective" because she doesn't enjoy a rough and rowdy play style).

PICKLES - LONGLEAF ANIMAL RESCUE

Mr. Pickles hasn't had an easy life. He came from a situation where he was neglected and didn't receive the care, attention, or stability that every dog deserves. Because of that, he's still learning that people can be kind, routines can be trusted, and life can be comfortable.

Mr. Pickles isn't looking for a perfect home—he's looking for a patient one. The ideal adopter will understand that healing takes time. He may need extra reassurance, consistency, and grace as he continues to build confidence and learn what it means to be loved. Some days will be easier than others, and progress may come in small steps. But for someone willing to invest that time, the reward is watching a dog discover happiness and security for perhaps the first time in his life.

Despite everything he's been through, Mr. Pickles has a sweet soul and a lot of love left to give. Every wag, every cuddle, and every moment of trust he offers feels earned because of the journey he's been on. Mr. Pickles is searching for someone who sees beyond where he came from and believes in where he's going.
